“varys was absolutely true to his word the whole way through. All he wanted was the right person on the throne and a fair person on the throne. he doesn’t have the distraction of love or desire or any of those things. And the people he needed to see clearly were both in love.”

Conleth Seamus Eoin Croiston Hill is an Irish actor born on the 24th of November, 1964 in Ballycastle, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. He has an older brother who works as a cameraman, a sister who is a producer, and a younger brother, Ronan, who is a sound engineer who has won four Emmy Awards for his sound mixing on Game of Thrones. Hill graduated from St MacNissi's College, Garron Tower and graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama's (Clothworkers Company Scholar) acting program in 1989.

In his theatrical debut, Hill was awarded the Laurence Olivier Theatre Award in 2001 (2000 season) for Best Actor for his performance in Stones in His Pockets at the New Ambassadors and York's Theatre. He later was nominated for Broadway's 2001 Tony Award as Best Actor (Play) for "Stones in His Pockets". In 2005, he was honored with his second Laurence Olivier Theatre Award for Best Performance in a supporting role in a musical for his role in "The Producers". Other theatrical credits include the National Theatre Live productions of All's Well That Ends Well in 2009, The Cherry Orchard in 2011 and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in 2017.

From 2011 to 2019, Hill appeared as Lord Varys in the television series Game of Thrones, based on George R. R. Martin's novel series A Song of Ice and Fire. Martin hinted, in a February 2013 post on his website, that he thought Hill would be a good choice to play the title character in a TV show based on Martin's science fiction novel Tuf Voyaging. Other film and television credits include Blue Heaven (1992), Whatever Works (2009), Perrier's Bounty (2009), Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011), Suits (2013), A Patch of Fog (2015) and 12 Monkeys (2018), Official Secrets (2019), as well as three post-Thrones TV series, Dublin Murders (2019), Vienna Blood (2019) and Doc Martin (2019). Most recently, Hill starred in the British drama films Here Are the Young Men (2020) and To Olivia (2021), as well as the science-fiction film Infinitum: Subject Unknown (2021), opposite Sir Ian McKellen.
