BACKGROUND

Grey Worm (Valyrian: Torgo Nudho) is the chosen commander of the Unsullied (Astapori Valyrian: Dovoghedhi), the warrior-eunuchs of Astapor, whose reputation for combat is without equal. Astapor is one of the three major cities of Slaver's Bay. As the name implies, the cities of the Slaver's Bay were the hub of the international slave trade for millennia, since the days of the old Ghiscari Empire.

Grey Worm was originally from the Summer Islands, an archipelago in the Summer Sea. Located southeast of Westeros and southwest of Volantis, the island of Naath lies to the east, between the Summer Islands and mainland Sothoryos. The inhabitants of the islands are among the greatest seafarers in the known world. Their "swan ships" sail faster than even the longships of the Ironborn, and are constructed from rare hardwoods that can withstand any assault.

As a baby Grey Worm was taken into slavery by the Good Masters of Astapor, an oligarchy of slave-traders dedicated to the training and commerce of Unsullied, warrior-eunuch slaves trained into absolute obedience since early childhood. As he was taken by the slavers in a raid as a baby. He has no memory of his life before being an Unsullied.
