Kristofer Hivju is a Norwegian actor, producer and screenwriter who was born on the 7th of December, 1978 in Oslo, Norway. As a young actor he mostly performed on stage on Trondelag Theatre, where he mainly played leading roles in various plays such as ‘Kristin Lavrandsdatter’, ‘Pepsi Love’ and ‘King Lear’. In 2004, he graduated from the Danish (Aarhus) subdivision of the Russian Academy of Theatre Arts (GITIS). Hivju is the son of Norwegian actors Erik Hivju and Lieselotte Holmene and is the cousin of French actress Isabelle Nanty. His father Erik is a prominent character actor who appeared with his son in the short film Flax (2008), where Kristofer shared screenwriting credit with director Bård Ivar Engelsås. Hivju is married to Gry Molvær Hivju and together they have two daughters, Noor (2007) and Sylja (2008).

Hivju is best known for playing the roles of Tormund Giantsbane in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, as well as Connor Rhodes in the 2017 film The Fate of the Furious. He made his American film debut in Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.'s prequel of John Carpenter's The Thing (2011), where he played the supporting role Jonas. Following this, he was seen in M. Night Shyamalan's After Earth (2013). He has also appeared in such films as Rovdyr (2008), In Order of Disappearance (2014), Operation Arctic (2014), The Wendy Effect (2015), Downhill (2020) and Three Wishes for Cinderella (2021).

Besides Game of Thrones, Hivju’s other television credits include Fox Grønland (2001), Seks som oss (2007), Størst av alt (2007), The Games (2013), Lilyhammer (2014), Beck (2016), The Lion Guard (2017), Twin (2019) and DuckTales (2020). He most recently joined the second season of Netflix’s The Witcher (2021).

He also had a significant supporting role in the feature film Force Majeure (2014) for which he won the Guldbaggen Award in 2015. The film itself won six Guldbaggen Awards the same year and was also nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 72nd Golden Globe Awards. The film was selected to compete in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival where it won the Jury Prize. Furthermore, Kristofer played the lead in The Last King (2016), a story of a Norwegian illegitimate son of a king. The feature film was the most watched film of Norway in 2016 and has now made an international breakthrough.
