ALSO KNOWN FOR
Ewan Mitchell is an English actor born in the United Kingdom. His birthdate, as well as his birthplace, is currently unknown. He is best known for his role as Osferth in the popular BBC Two / Netflix historical fiction series The Last Kingdom, as well as Tom Bennett in BBC One’s 2019 war drama series World on Fire, and for portraying the role of Billy Taylor in the 2017 ITV period drama The Halcyon.
In 2015, Mitchell’s first experience in acting was appearing in two British short films, Luke McGibney’s drama Stereotype and as the lead role in Chris Andrews’ Fire, a coming-of-age drama about a young man who is defined by his anger and rage, as well as the conflict against his father. Following both short films, he went on to film his portrayal as Billy Taylor in ITV’s period drama The Halcyon, created by Charlotte Jones and starring Steven Mackintosh and Olivia Williams. The series focused on examining London during World War II from 'a new perspective,’ and its first episode was broadcast on the 2nd of January 2017. Prior to The Halcyon’s cancellation, Mitchell had also joined the cast of Netflix’s popular historical fiction series The Last Kingdom during its second season as the character of Osferth. Also in 2017, he appeared in a minor role for his film debut in the LGBT feature Just Charlie (2017) and also guest-starred in an episode of ITV’s period detective drama Granchester, as well as an episode of the long-running BBC One medical soap opera Doctors. While Mitchell returned to The Last Kingdom in 2018 for its third series, he also co-starred alongside Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche in the science fiction horror film High Life, directed by Claire Denis. The film premiered on the 9th of September, 2018 at the Toronto International Film Festival. He then portrayed the character of Tom Bennett in Peter Bowker’s BBC One war series World on Fire, which co-starred Sean Bean, Lesley Manville and Helen Hunt. The fourth series of The Last Kingdom later returned to Netflix in 2020 and the following year it was announced that Mitchell had joined the cast of HBO’s highly-anticipated Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon as the character of Aemond Targaryen, which is set to premiere in August of 2022. Also in 2022, Mitchell appeared in the ITV / Peacock crime thriller Trigger Point and also completed his role as Osferth in the fifth and final season of The Last Kingdom.
