Gavin Spokes is an English actor and producer who was born in the United Kingdom. His birthdate, as well as his birthplace, is currently unknown, but it is rumored that he is approximately fourty-five years old. Spokes attended the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) for his acting training, and is best known in television for his roles as Andrew Cooper in Channel 4’s 2019 television drama film Brexit: The Uncivil War, as Peter Earl in a 2015 episode of BBC One’s long-running medical drama Holby City, and as Winston Churchill in a 2017 episode of Channel 4’s sitcom Man Down.

A theatre veteran, as well as a skilled baritone and tenor, Spokes has appeared on several stages throughout his career, including performances such as King Ignacio in The Light Princess at the Royal National Theatre, as Francis Henshall in One Man, Two Guvnors at the National Theatre, as Parsons in 1984 at the Nottingham Playhouse, as Enoch Snow in Carousel at the English National Opera, as Charles Ingram in Quiz at the Noel Coward Theatre in London's West End, and as Deputy Inspector Hyatt in A Very Expensive Poison at the Old Vic Theatre. In 2016, Spokes was nominated for the prestigious Laurence Olivier Award for his performance as Nicely Nicely Johnson in Savoy Theatre’s production of Guys and Dolls. His most recent West End performance was in 2019 as King George III in the hit musical Hamilton.

Spokes’ first foray into television was as Blake Pressman in a 2008 episode of ITV’s police procedural series The Bill. Following this, he then guest starred as Corey Black in a 2011 episode of BBC Three’s situational comedy series Lunch Monkeys. In 2013, Spokes then appeared in an episode of Channel 4’s thriller series Utopia as well as an episode of Channel 4’s long-running soap opera Hollyoaks. He later appeared as Peter Earl in BBC One’s medical drama Holby City and then went on to portray a guest-starring role in TNT’s period drama Will (2017), a fictional account of the early life of William Shakespeare, as well as playing the former Prime Minister Winston Churchill, in Channel 4’s sitcom Man Down (2017). Spokes’ first film credit came in 2019 when he portrayed the real-life politician Andrew Cooper in Brexit: The Uncivil War, and in the same year he appeared in period war film The Resistance Fighter. After making appearances in two British series, Casualty and Hitmen, Spokes was cast in three projects that were released in 2022: ITV’s cold war spy thriller The Ipcress File, the Ben Kingsley-led Salvador Dalí film Dalíland, and in the recurring role of Lyonel Strong in HBO’s Game of Thrones fantasy prequel series House of the Dragon.
