“When I first signed on to play Tommen, I started speculating about when he was going to die. BUT he doesn't really deserve to have his throat slit or his stomach jabbed. In a way, Tommen died the way he was - it was a peaceful death.”

Dean-Charles Chapman is an English actor, born on the 7th of September 1997 in Romford, East London, England. He grew up in Essex and began working as a child actor at the age of four. Chapman is most known for portraying Billy Elliot in the West End theatre production of Billy Elliot the Musical, Tom Blake in the 2019 Sam Mendes's film 1917, and as Tommen Baratheon in the fourth, fifth and sixth seasons of the HBO drama series Game of Thrones.

At the age of eight, Chapman was cast as "Small Boy" in Billy Elliot the Musical, and would later be promoted to the roles of Michael and finally the titular character, becoming the second-longest running cast member in West End’s production. During his time on Billy Elliot, he worked alongside future Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, and had the opportunity to meet U.K. Prime Minister Gordon Brown with several other young actors in the play. Soon after leaving Billy Elliot, Chapman was cast on the BBC sitcom The Revolting World of Stanley Brown in the lead role, alongside fellow future Game of Thrones co-star Nell Williams, who played the young Cersei Lannister in the season five premiere episode. The show lasted for one season.

Chapman made his film debut in the 2014 film Before I Go to Sleep, alongside Nicole Kidman and Colin Firth. Then, after playing the minor role of Martyn Lannister in the third season of Game of Thrones, he replaced a younger actor named Callum Wharry for the major role of Tommen Baratheon, the eventual young king of Westeros for three seasons of the series. With the rest of the cast, Chapman was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award. In 2018, he played the role of Castor in the AMC series Into the Badlands for seven episodes, and featured in the film Breathe, an auto-biographical film helmed by director Jonathan Cavendish, in which Chapman played the role of a younger Cavendish. In 2019, he played a supporting role in the film Blinded by the Light, as well as the historical Thomas of Lancaster in the Netflix war epic The King, starring Timothée Chalamet. More notably, in 2019, Chapman starred alongside George MacKay in the Sam Mendes-directed war film 1917, which went on to receive ten Academy Award nominations, winning three. Subsequently, he played the lead role of Matthew in the Eoin Macken's drama Here Are the Young Men (2020), supported by Finn Cole and Anya Taylor-Joy. In April 2021, it was announced that Chapman was cast in the upcoming medieval comedy film Catherine, Called Birdy, written and directed by Lena Dunham.
