BACKGROUND

Shae is a camp-follower/prostitute, and a woman of mystery as she never divulges much of her past. She is attractive, small and slender with large dark eyes, fine black hair, and with an interest in power. Shae comes into the sexual services of Tyrion Lannister when his father, Lord Tywin Lannister, is camped out with his army in the Riverlands preparing for battle against the Northern armies, led by Robb Stark. Shae is found by Tyrion’s hired sellsword companion Bronn and is escorted to meet the wealthy and intelligent uncle to King Joffrey Baratheon. Though Shae is attached to a ginger-haired knight, he is persuaded to give her up to Tyrion.

Shae arrived to Westeros from the continent of Essos approximately ten years prior. She hails from the Free City of Lorath, which is located on an island just off the northern coast of Essos. It is east and slightly south of another Free City named Braavos. Lorath is the least-known of the Free Cities, due to its isolated location and the lack of any notable ports further east. At unspecified points in her past, Shae has been to Dorne and Volantis, and worked as a handmaiden for someone named Lady Zourif. She is a curt, willingly mysterious woman with a cynical attitude and a sharp tongue. Being a prostitute for most of her life, forced to sell her body, initially by her own mother, since age nine as survival has left her somewhat jaded. Shae refuses to say anything about herself or past life and wishes to not care about the concerns or well-being of others. She has dreams of wealth and power, despite her low social status as a kept woman.
